The Integrative Palliative Care Institute (IPCI) provide evidence-based, outcome-tested training for healthcare professionals in integrative therapies for hospice and palliative care. Sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), our flagship program, the “Integrative Therapies in Hospice and Palliative Care” was developed with the input and feedback of more than 800 multidisciplinary healthcare providers from across the United States. To test the program's effectiveness, 170 physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains and other providers participated in a randomized clinical trial (RCT). Results from this RCT have been recently published* and showed: ◾ 78% increase in confidence and understanding of integrative therapies. ◾ 58% increase in clinical practice activities incorporating these approaches. The “Integrative Therapies in Hospice and Palliative Care” program teaches professionals all they need to know about research-backed integrative interventions, including: ◾ massage ◾ meditation ◾ guided imagery ◾ hypnosis ◾ acupuncture ◾ tai chi ◾ qigong ◾ yoga ◾ energy-based therapies (Healing Touch, Reiki, and more) These interventions have been shown to improve symptom management, emotional well-being, and quality of life.
