About International Training & Equipping Ministries

International Training & Equipping Ministries (ITEM) has an ongoing ministry in ten African countries. ITEM’s president and founder, Steve Van Horn, makes three trips a year to Africa and does training in two or three countries during each trip. Other teacher-trainers are being recruited to assist with the training. ITEM’s plan calls for nationals serving as national and regional coordinators by 2018. A plan to equip nationals in each of the countries who can conduct ITEM seminars on their own without the assistance of a trainer from the West has been launched. OUR PURPOSE ITEM is contending earnestly for the faith, providing previously untrained pastors with a biblical and theological foundation, and training African trainers who will be able to train others on their own. CONVICTION It is our conviction that the Bible is the final authority and the sufficient source for instructing pastors and Church leaders. Therefore we hold fast to the principle of Sola Scriptura. At the IFCL, the Bible never closes and we do not pick verses randomly to support our points; we open the Bible and study complete passages or, in some cases, entire books.
