Investing in U. It’s all about U. U is for unleashed, untethered, untapped potential, unlimited, fruitful undertakings, uplifting those around us, for understanding, universal principles, unity – it’s for the U in us. In partnership with the Estates of Yufus Kayole Ltd, we wish to focus on education. Innovative projects that use ICT to solve specific educational needs throughout the region, including bringing access to education to isolated communities and marginalized groups in society, combating educational professional shortages and innovation on information dissemination. Computers are now ubiquitous in elementary education around the world. The vision of having all teachers and students access modern multimedia computers with the latest information is still far for rural schools. We aim at implementing a replicable education technology solution that can help us grow primary education schools. We would like to showcase, with a pilot project in our own funded ‘Homeland Preparatory School’ how successful implementation of such technologies can lead to growth in quality of education and increase in enrollment. We know that successful implementation of IT solutions goes beyond having appropriate hardware and software, and in fact mainly hinges on acceptance of the key people; the students and teachers. The technology is available, open-source and increasingly low cost. We would like to set up computer equipped classes with learning and content management software, curated database of learning material, a network, a local server and an internet connection. Investment in energy is critical as well. We would like to believe that connecting, training students and teachers will ultimately lead to a digital migration of the current education system of primary Schools, thereby growing the numbers of students that we can enroll as well as increasing the quality of education they receive.
