• Isabel Healthcare provides a clinical reasoning support tool to help physicians broaden their differential and manage clinical uncertainty. The Isabel tool uses the patient's demographics and clinical features to generate a list of possible diseases covering over 10,000 conditions. It covers all age groups and can take into account travel history. Clinicians around the world rely on Isabel to provide them with inspiration, particularly for patients with complex or atypical presentations, when they need it most. • Isabel also produces a version for patients: the Isabel Symptom Checker which helps patients research possible causes for their symptoms and provides a triage tool to help them decide where to present if seeking care. This is used directly by patients but also by health institutions encouraging their patients to become better informed and present more appropriately. • Isabel also has an eLearning platform designed to teach and assess clinical reasoning skills, mainly for use within medical schools. • At the heart of all the Isabel products is a highly trained, enhanced machine learning system. The engine has been trained over two decades on virtually every possible presentation of the majority of all known diseases. It is this unique structure, very different from the more traditional rules-based systems, which enables Isabel to combine accuracy, breath of coverage, ability to cope with complexity, ease of use and ability to integrate into other electronic systems. • Isabel was started in 1999 after the founder’s daughter, Isabel, was almost fatally misdiagnosed aged 3 1/2.
