About Isha Vidhya
Isha Vidhya, a project of Isha Education trust, seeks to transform the lives of the rural children. The mission is to achieve economic and social empowerment of rural children by building high quality schools. Isha Vidhya selects the 60% of the students in each school for scholarships. For more information, please email info@ishavidhya.org The first Isha Vidhya school was started in June 2006. Today, 8 schools are operating – 7 in Tamilnadu & 1 in Andhra Pradesh. 4050 students are being educated by 223 teachers. 46% of the students are girls. The Board of 9 Trustees includes reputed people like Deepak Satwalekar (Ex-MD of HDFC & HDFC Standard Life) & Prahlad Kakkar (Ad-Guru). Ravi Venkatesan (Independent Director- Infosys, Ex- Chairman of Microsoft India, is on the Advisory Committee. Isha Vidhya follows holistic approach to academic excellence through innovative methodologies such as the Karadi Path & Power English. Computer to student ratio is 1:2 in the computer aided learning labs. Isha Vidhya provides vision, hearing, dental checks, highly nutritional mid-day meals, create seedling nurseries and organic kitchen gardens besides basic life skills. Every Isha Vidhya school has a kitchen to provide nutritious meals at a highly subsidized rate. The schools transform almost every aspect of a child’s life & parental attitudes to education as well. The child learns basic hygiene and becomes comfortable with comprehending and conversing in English in 2 - 3 years.
