About ISPRI - Academia Română

Founded in January 1990 as the Institute of Social Theory and Political Science, the Institute was concerned in its early years with research on fundamental political changes in Central and Eastern Europe, including Romania, after the fall of communism. In December 2001, the Institute was reorganized, renamed the Institute of Political Science and International Relations "Ion I. C. Brătianu" (ISPRI) of the Romanian Academy, and the research addressed a broader issue: the transition from totalitarianism to democracy, the development of political pluralism and civil society from the perspective of the main contemporary political theories and ideologies. Today, ISPRI's main activities consist of fundamental research in political science, international relations, sociology and geopolitics of religion, strategic communication and information warfare analysis. Led and coordinated by Prof. Dan Dungaciu - President of the ISPRI Scientific Council, Coordinator of the Department of International Relations, ISPRI is organized in two departments, two laboratories, a centre for Sino-Russian studies, a centre for strategic sociological research, publishes and prints two journals, has its own CNCSIS accredited Publishing House established by the Decision of the Ministry of Culture no. 1835 of 25 February 1993 and has a rich Library containing 300,000 titles (about one million volumes) in the field of socio-human and political sciences.
