About ITIM: The Right to Live Jewish
ITIM’s Agenda is the Jewish People. The gap between Israeli society and the Rabbinate alienates Jews from Judaism and Diaspora Jewry from Israel. When, despite moderate alternatives, the Rabbinate applies the strictest legal interpretations in their authority over all matters Jewish, such as marriage, divorce, conversion, burial, who is a Jew, who can marry whom, and whether children are recognized as Jewish they inflict needless pain and suffering. For over a decade, ITIM has challenged this difficult status quo. On the personal level, ITIM counsels and assists individuals to successfully navigate the religious bureaucracy in Israel. On the systemic level, ITIM promotes statutory, regulatory, and judicial change that ensures the rights of all to live as Jews in the most pluralistic, yet halachic way possible. From birth to marriage, divorce to burial, conversion to women’s rights, ITIM works to ensure tolerance, respect and inclusion of all Jews by the State of Israel and its religious establishment.
