This clean energy program aims to mitigate energy impact on nature by reducing charcoal demand and related emissions and cost on household. Solar is a provided as a sustainable and affordable alternative for kerosene lighting in off grid communities. 2. Green The Hill Campaign aimed at landscape restoration through tree planting to reverse impact of the energy associated deforestation. Through tree planting, we are restoring habitats, places affected by landslide to improve to create a carbon sink while securing future energy source. 3. Green Enterprises . We champion climate resilient green enterprises to help communities adapt and build resilience to climate change through climate smart livelihood. These include, bee farming and fish farming. Beehives are established under growing tree woodlots, swamps and along rivers to produce honey which farmers harvest instead of cutting off the woodlot for charcoal sale. Bee farming is also a good biological control for elephants when kept along park community boundaries. We champion fish farming along swamps as a sustainable alternative sugar can growing in swamps. Harvest fish for money instead of poaching for bushmeat and livelihood. These have proved sustainable and profitable ways of attracting communities into conservation. 4. Eco-tourism on the Rwenzori ranges near the nature endowed but unexposed boarder of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Eco-tourism is a sustainable way communities can use their culture and natural resources to earn a living without harming it. IYAN is working with rural communities in Ihandiro to promote community based tourism which is backed by the endowed sceneries on the Mount Rwenzori for sustainable living.
