About IYRS

IYRS School of Technology & Trades is a school in Newport, RI that provides experiential education, preparing students to enter a global maker and manufacturing workforce. IYRS teaches the art and science of making, building, restoring and maintaining, and in the process, helps its graduates build both careers and more meaningful lives – inspired by the knowledge that in their hands and through the use of technology, they have the power to make, build and maintain to a high standard. IYRS offers full-time and flexible experiential learning in Newport, Rhode Island with training and certifications that help IYRS graduates prepare for meaningful careers and lives. Whether your interests lie in advanced design technologies or classic craftsmanship, IYRS programming includes advanced woodworking, manufacturing technologies, preservation and restoration, integrated working systems, carbon fiber fabrication, and marine technologies. IYRS offers a variety of hands-on training programs and industry certification in as little as 6 to 20 months. Career preparation is core to the IYRS experience. Developing skill sets in the shops and classrooms is as critical as developing an informed career path and gaining real-world experience. All IYRS curricula include career planning and a career immersive experience. IYRS programs also incorporate elements of project management, strengthening IYRS graduates’ understanding of cost and material estimates, budgeting, and other business-critical decision-making. Career development professionals guide students throughout their career exploration and planning process including workshops, job search, networking, resume writing, and interviewing. No matter which IYRS experience a student chooses, graduates are prepared to enter a global manufacturing and maker workforce with the confidence and ability to collaborate, contribute, and lead in R&D labs, in the shop, and on the manufacturing floor.
