JA.M.E.S., Inc. (Just About Mothers Excelling in School) was established in 2006 to encourage and support higher education aspirations among expecting and parenting teens and adolescents (up to age 24) by providing scholarships, personal counseling and mentoring. Based on the reported and observed needs of its clients, the unique Educational Doula program was added in 2008. Educational Doulas provide targeted physical, emotional and information support. In 2014, the agency expanded again, when based on reported and observed client needs, mental health services, including professional counselors and case managers, were added. From the beginning, the agency served male and female prospective young parents. And, from the beginning, the hallmark of the J.A.M.E.S., Inc. model has been empathetic, individual attention, encouragement to set and attain high educational, financial, and social goals, and recognition that every J.A.M.E.S., Inc. client is an at-promise young person.
