About Jane Austen Literacy Foundation

The Jane Austen Literacy Foundation connects a global network of volunteers and supporters who believe in the power of literacy and want to help others. Founded by Caroline Jane Knight (the last of Jane Austen's nieces to have grown up in Chawton, where Jane herself lived and wrote), the Foundation is a registered not for profit charity run entirely by volunteers and 100% of donations received is spent on literacy programs and activities. In this post-Covid world, more learners than ever need help in attaining the basic skills of reading and writing - we all have a role to play in closing the education and literacy gap - and individuals need community connections, now more than ever. That is why our mission is to Connect Through Literacy.
