I have worked in the area of skills and employability with schools for many years and have established a network of excellent contacts across the Liverpool City Region. I have a deep understanding of the ways in which schools operate and the barriers they face when trying to embed employability skills across their school curriculum. Also, having preceded my work in schools with roles in corporate banking, staff development and training and community development within Liverpool City Council, I feel that I have a unique insight into the barriers which can restrict schools and businesses working together and the ways in which these can be effectively overcome. I now have many years’ experience of working successfully to embed a skills development ethos within schools having, in the past, held a position as a school Senior Leader. I wrote the bid which successfully secured funding to open Liverpool’s newest Studio School; Studio@Deyes and currently work extensively with schools in the Liverpool City Region reviewing their approach to employability and work related student opportunities and developing strategic and operational plans to assist them in embedding this across the school. This is often by way of practical solutions and I have a ‘hands on’ approach to ensuring that each school I work with gains a plan which is suited to their individual needs and reflects the needs of their student body. I recently worked for some time with the Liverpool and Sefton Chambers of Commerce to design and deliver their Young Chamber initiative for schools. I ran this this programme for over a year and now work with many of the schools who have taken up membership to support them in maximising the benefits they gain from this.
