About Jefferson Transitional Programs
Jefferson Transitional Programs (JTP) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit (33-0477477) that offers vocational, supported living, and educational programs for individuals living in Riverside County, age 16 and up, who carry psychiatric diagnoses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and clinical depression – many of whom are homeless. Our organization was founded in 1990 and incorporated in 1991, as the result of one mother’s efforts. Dorothy Jefferson saw the need for community-based support services, such as housing and day programs, to help individuals stay stable and out of more costly and acute interventions such as psychiatric hospitals. Since 1990, JTP has grown from having a budget of $70,000 with a staff of 3 to having a budget of over $2.5million and a staff of 52. Throughout this growth, our mission has remained constant “To assist individuals with psychiatric and/or dual-diagnosis challenges in becoming productive and thriving citizens through the provision of safe, affordable housing; development of functional life skills; opportunities to explore and develop vocational options; and promotion of community awareness and sensitivity to the needs and potential of individuals with psychiatric and/or dual-diagnoses.”
