About John Scott's Irish Modern Dance Theatre -
Irish Modern Dance Theatre produces Dancer from the Dance Festival of Irish Choreography, an online gathering of Irish and irish identifying Choreographers, crossing national borders, practices, ethnicities and generations, curated by John Scott. IMDT is one of the most original and responsive dance companies working in Ireland today. A Dublin-based ensemble, we create distinctive dance works with diverse casts, mixing virtuosic Irish and international dancers with African and Middle Eastern refugees and torture survivors. Our works include ‘Begin Anywhere’, ‘HYPERACTIVE’, Actions’ and ‘Fall and Recover’ - all recognised for their intelligence, honesty and humanity. Our work crosses disciplines, subverts expectations of dance and dancers and finds new ways to explore contemporary issues. Future projects include touring 'Men in Motion' in Ireland to Droichead Arts Centre, September 11th, Ballina Arts Centre, October 4th, Wexford Arts Centre, October 16th and Ramor Arts Centre, Virginia, October 18th. Recently’: ‘Begin Anywhere’, a collaboration with Mel Mercier, commissioned by Irish Arts Center, ran at IAC, New York, Black Box Galway, Dance Limerick, Project Arts Centre/Saint Patrick’s Festival, The Civic Tallaght, 'HYPERACTIVE', Dancer from the Dance Festival at Temple bar Gallery and Studio and Clonmel Junction Arts Festival. Future performances include 'Four Merce Cunningham Solos' at Musée de l'Orangerie, Paris on January 19th, 2026. #ProjectArtsCentre and #DanceIreland #DancerFromTheDanceFest.
