About Joint Institute for VLBI ERIC
JIVE—the Joint Institute for VLBI ERIC—is the core organisation of the European VLBI Network (EVN). It operates the central EVN data processor and provides assistance to astronomers before, during and after their observations of a radio source with the EVN. Its primary objective is to promote and develop Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) and other radio astronomical techniques. VLBI combines signals from multiple radio telescopes located across the Earth turning them into a single giant observatory to study the radio sky at the highest possible resolution. JIVE conducts a diverse range of Research and Development activities within VLBI-related domains, including radio astronomy data processing, and plays a key role in advancing innovative applications of VLBI and radio astronomy technologies. Established in 1993, the institute currently employs 20 PhD scientists. In 2014, it attained the status of a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) with seven member countries: France, Italy, Latvia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Sweden. Additional support is received from partner institutes in China, Germany, and South Africa. JIVE is headquartered in Dwingeloo, the Netherlands, hosted by ASTRON (the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy).
