About Jorge Engel & Associates

Jorge Engel, AIA is an architect, designer, developer and real estate broker in California. He has designed thousands of apartment units, hundreds of single-family homes as well as banks, spas, shopping centers, medical facilities and other projects. He has also developed a number of multi-unit and single family projects in La Jolla, Del Mar, Poway, Bonita and Pacific Beach. Since graduating from the Architecture School at Washington University in St Louis in 1977, he has practiced in Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles and for the past 30 years in San Diego and Napa. Long before sustainability and “green” became buzzwords in the design community, Jorge integrated these fundamental principles in all of his projects. By focusing on the lifestyle and aspirations of his clients in conjunction with the specific qualities of the site, neighborhood and community, he has always sought to craft solutions, which exceed the clients’ expectations while respecting and enhancing the surrounding community. Each design is unique to those clients and to the site with its individual microclimate, orientation, scale, topography and (often forgotten) its neighbors. Jorge’s interest in renewable resources has included managing the development of a number of green building products including Gridcore, a molded waste paper fiber core material, and recently, Ainacore and Studio Bio Foam, two bio-based rigid foam insulation and milling products.
