Acclaimed for its dramatic expression, technical mastery and expansive, yet nuanced movement and illustrates the timelessness of José Limón’s work, vision and cultural heritage. Limón became a crucial figure in the development of modern dance here in America, and was named by The New York Times as “one of the best dancers of the 20th century.” The Company’s repertory, which balances classic works with commissions from contemporary choreographers, is of an unparalleled breadth, creating unique experiences for audiences around the world. About Limón and his Company: · Longest continuing dance company in America, celebrating its 65th Anniversary in 2012 · Was the first dance company invited to perform at the newly opened State Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in 1964· Jose Limón was appointed as the FIRST cultural ambassador in any medium by the US State Department to represent the US abroad. · A company signature work, Missa Brevis, was developed from Limón’s work as Cultural Ambassador on a trip to Poland 10 years after the end of WWII.
