About Journalists' Charity
The Journalists' Charity gives practical & financial support to journalists across all sectors nationwide. Formerly known as the Newspaper Press Fund, the charity was set up in 1864 by Charles Dickens and a fellowship of parliamentary writers who wanted to protect those who provided political challenge on behalf of society. More than 160 years later, the world of journalism has changed immeasurably, but the industry continues to hold the powerful to account and keep the nation informed, entertained, connected, and represented. From print to digital, social and broadcast, the charity stands ready to support all journalists (and their families) however it can. In the last few years the Journalists' Charity has launched a range of new schemes to help journalists face the challenges of today. These include the pioneering first jobs fund which gives cash support to help new starters overcome barriers to entry. There’s also help with expert led mentoring & training. These schemes now complement the charity’s general financial assistance programme which has provided a lifeline for hundreds of struggling journalists over the years You can become a free supporter of the charity by singing up online and following the Journalists’ Charity on socials.
