About JSPSInternational Academic Collaborations

Founded in 1932 by way of an Imperial endowment, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) is an independent administrative institution. It works to comprehensively advance Japanese science by funding scientific research, fostering excellent researchers, promoting international scientific exchange, and supporting university reform. Carrying out exchanges and collaborations with science-promotion institutions in countries around the world, JSPS promotes the globalization of scientific research activities and the international circulation of the world’s finest brains. JSPS operates 10 overseas liaison offices in nine countries and supports JSPS alumni associations in 20 countries. Via these programs and other means, JSPS supports the building of networks among researchers. ▪JSPS Alumni Association https://www.jsps.go.jp/english/e-alumni/ As of January 2023, JSPS supports 20 researcher communities (alumni associations) established by former JSPS fellows in countries around the world. Follow-up activities are supported to maintain and expand their networks among the alumni and with their Japanese colleagues. ▪JSPS-Net (social media) https://www-jsps-net.jsps.go.jp/ JSPS-Net, a social networking service, supports the formation of networks and research communities for both Japanese and international researchers, in order to contribute to strengthening and expanding human networks derived from long years of research exchange between Japan and other countries.
