Kāhu SiliconBio is a technology company spinning out of Edinburgh University. Our aim is to transform liquid sensing making it as fast and straightforward to measure trace chemicals in liquids as using a digital thermometer. We have developed a novel method of interfacing microorganisms to silicon chips - thus creating a biohybrid electronic device. We leverage the extraordinary sensitivity and speed that microbes have evolved to detect trace chemicals in liquids - bioengineering them to be responsive to chemicals of commercial interest. Our unique, patented, bioelectronic interface means we generate an electrical signal directly proportional to chemical concentration. Our technology has applications in aquaculture, environmental pollution detection, aquatic ecosystem monitoring, offshore infrastructure asset integrity management, medical and veterinary diagnostics, bioprocessing and many others.
