The organisation is founded in February 2014 by Dr. Haritz Sarriegi Etxeberria and Dr. Konrad Weiß in Oñati (Basque Country, Spain). Kalkene collaborates with the foundry industry developing and optimising their processes and products. For such a service, Kalkene contributes in the development and distribution of WinCast, the first FEM casting simulation software in the market. WinCast fulfills a doble objective in Kalkene: it is the simulation software for the own provision of services, and on the other hand, our customers can install it at home and promote their own strategic production development (by themselves or assisted by Kalkene). The computer-aided castings design helps our customers saving materials, energy and time, and therefore, improve productivity by adding value to their products. WinCast expert is indicated to simulate mold filling and solidification, prediction of porosity and other defects, estimate residual stresses, distorsion and final mechanical properties. The software can be applied to simulate gravity casting (sand and permanent moulds), HPDC, LPDC, Investment casting, Tilt casting, Continuous casting, as well as heat treatment and welding processes. WinCast expert software can be installed on Windows and Linux systems. Kalkene's expertise covers also microstructure modelling, CALPHAD modelling (computational thermodynamics) and coupling of both fields into casting simulations. Additionally, the professional and experienced Kalkene-team provides casting science and technology consulting services and recommendations.
