About Kames Fish Farming

We are UK's sole producer of Scottish Steelhead Trout, the rainbow trout that migrates to the sea where it grows big (more akin to a salmon), silvery and athletic. It is an exceptional fish and we don't farm anything else. Scotland's oldest family owned fish farm, Kames was established in 1972 at Loch Melfort on the West Coast of Argyll. We now have sites at Loch Melfort, Loch Craignish, Loch Tay and Pooltiel on the Isle of Skye. We have pioneered the best in aquaculture techniques for decades, help set up farms of Sea Bream, Sea Bass, Halibut and salmon around the world, and our values of quality, sustainability and community guide us through everything we do. In 2022 we won Best Aquaculture Company in the UK at the Aquaculture UK awards. Alongside the farming side of our business we operate a fish farming equipment supply and installation service ranging from fish cages and moorings to jetties and rafts for both aquaculture and the leisure sector.
