About Kathleen Marie Studio

Kathleen’s unique media of Pyrography or, Pyro-engraving is a superb blending of realistic rendering within the abstract character of wood grain. Her technique involves burning images into wood with a delicate electric wire. Like a sculptor she sees pictures and stories in the wood and draws them out so we can share her vision. Her work seems to live in the mysterious space between two-dimensional and three-dimensional art and the character and grain of the wood are an essential aspect of each work. Kathleen’s work reflects her experiences with and feelings for nature, animals, wildlife and a life lived close to the earth. Her work is inspired from wilderness trips, horse-packing trips, camping expeditions and exploring her own land in the Texas Hill Country. Each piece evolves from a personal experience brought together with the beauty and mystery of the wood grain. Kathleen has always had a love for wood and the transition from traditional media to Pyro-engraving was a natural metamorphosis for her art career. Kathleen’s work is collected throughout the world.
