Kauri Trees is creating a unique Kauri forest in the rolling hills behind Taieri Beach, Otago. At a latitude of 46 degrees south, the forest will be New Zealand’s southern most significant stand of kauri trees — the largest in the South Island. The first stage requires native seedlings to be planted on the 20 hectares of pasture. The seedlings will provide protection for the young Kauri trees when they are planted. The existing 8 hectares of virgin native bush will remain untouched for native fauna.
