Kawasaki Motors Europe N.V. (KME) is the European head office representing Kawasaki Motors Ltd of Japan, a company which forms part of one of the most versatile and successful Japanese industrial conglomerates in the world, Kawasaki Heavy Industries. The origins of the Kawasaki group of companies began in 1878, when Shozo Kawasaki founded his own shipyard in Tokyo. As the years passed, the company expanded its activities beyond marine into aircraft, rolling stock and large commercial engineering projects. The current multinational Kawasaki Heavy Industries was born out of a merger between the shipyard, and the aircraft and rolling stock enterprises in 1969. Currently the mother company has about a hundred subsidiaries worldwide, all involved in industrial and high-tech production. Robots, ships, aircraft, trains and motorcycles are just a few of the products that Kawasaki Heavy Industries and its companies develop and produce. Kawasaki Motors Ltd, began its life as company in October 2021, focusing exclusively on the design and manufacture of motorcycles and stand-alone engines. Best-known by consumers are Kawasaki on and off-road motorcycles, Jet Ski personal watercraft, ATV (All Terrain Vehicles) and MULE (Utility Vehicles). Kawasaki Motors Europe N.V. takes care of the European distribution and marketing – plus sales, training and warranty support – for these products within Europe. The head office of KME is located in Hoofddorp, near Amsterdam and the European distribution centre is in Vianen. In total, approximately 125 people work for Kawasaki Motors Europe N.V. Local marketing activities and product sales are taken care of by branch offices in several European countries under the umbrella of Kawasaki Motors Europe N.V.
