At KC Mothers in Charge, our mission is deeply personal. Founded after the tragic loss of her own child to gun violence, Rosilyn Temple turned her pain into purpose—creating a safe space for families who have experienced unimaginable loss. We stand beside mothers, fathers, siblings, and loved ones as they navigate grief, offering not only comfort but also the tools to heal and find hope again. Founded in 2014 by Rosilyn Temple, after losing her son to homicide, KC Mothers in Charge is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families and communities impacted by homicide. Guided by the principles of trauma-informed care, we respond directly to homicide scenes in partnership with law enforcement, offering immediate crisis support to grieving families in the most devastating moments of their lives. Our trained crisis responders provide compassionate presence, emotional stabilization, and practical resources on-site. Beyond those first critical hours, we remain a steadfast source of hope and healing, providing home visits, grief counseling, victim services, and long-term support groups. We understand that healing from violent loss is a journey—and we walk alongside survivors every step of the way. Our work extends into the community, fostering trust between law enforcement and residents and advocating for victims’ rights. Every service we provide is grounded in evidence-based practices that recognize the deep, complex effects of trauma.
