Founded in 1907 as a cooperative, today St. Michael-Eppan counts 330 members who cultivate 385 hectares of vineyards. In particular, the area in and around the village of Appiano offers ideal conditions for varieties such as Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Noir. The mild and sunny climate forms a foundation for the unique quality of the wines. Today St. Michael-Eppan is one of the most renowned wineries in South Tyrol and Italy, with award-winning wines both nationally and internationally. The Italian guide "I Vini d'Italia" by Gambero Rosso elected it "Cantina dell'anno", Italy’s best winery of the year. Simultaneously, they elected the winemaker Hans Terzer as one of the ten best in the world.
