Kenny has taught at the University of Colorado, given national and regional presentations on technology and practice, and implemented numerous programs including large and small firm Building Information Modeling, and On-line Project Management. However innovation means more than just keeping abreast of the latest technologies. Innovation can also be achieved by keeping an open mind, for example, by looking at a problem from several points of view we can assist the client in refining and prioritizing their constraints and opportunities. ◦Appropriate – An appropriate solution is one in which the Function, Budget, Tectonics, and Environment are brought into alignment. The functional program is first scrutinized to confirm that it is suitable to the particular project and not just a generic starting point. The budget needs to be addressed as early as possible and all subsequent moves should take place with it in mind. Tectonics are the “stuff” of buildings, the form, materials and arrangement. Environmental factors are everything outside of the building that influences it, including the surrounding areas, the legal constraints, and the regional climate. The search for an appropriate solution is a cyclical one, each factor influences the next and should be revisited several times through the course of a project.
