The Kentucky Commission on Military Affairs (KCMA) is an independent agency attached to the Office of the Governor. It was formed in 1996 upon the passage of KRS 154.12-203 and is the lead advocate for military installations and activities relating to Kentucky's $22-plus billion dollar defense economy. Over 20 years, KCMA has directly managed Base Re-alignment and Closure (BRAC), creating conditions for significant regional economic growth surrounding its military installations. In partnership with key stakeholders, KCMA provides insight to all levels of government regarding military service members, veterans, and their families. Our Vision: To ensure that Kentucky achieves its full potential in supporting and partnering with our military while creating enduring economic opportunity for the Commonwealth. Our Mission: Guided by Kentucky statute, the Kentucky Commission on Military Affairs addresses all matters of military significance by advising and synchronizing efforts with key stakeholders; protecting and growing our military installations and activities; expanding its defense-related industry; and improving the quality of life for our service members, veterans, and their families. We are dedicated to fulfilling our obligation, providing never-ending support to our military population and the citizens of Kentucky. Our Goals: 1. Develop and implement the model for transitioning service members, veterans, and spouses 4.
