About Kids Helping Kids Sacramento
Created in 2012 by AP Government students who wanted to raise money for a homeless classmate, Kids Helping Kids Sacramento has evolved into an award winning nonprofit handling hundreds of thousands of dollars out of Del Campo High School. Since it's founding, student volunteers in Kids Helping Kids have run the organization for one reason: learning is best by doing, and doing is best by serving others. We raise money for families with pediatric cancer, foster-care and homeless youth, underprivileged elementary school students, and impoverished children across the world. To do that, students learn to manage operations, finances, fundraising, productions, outreach, and marketing in a year-long class that gives them the space to plan their events. Both the Annual Signature Gala, and the College Bound Classic golf tournament, have raised tens of thousands of dollars for children in need. In 2016, Kids Helping Kids was named the #1 student-run social entrepreneurial nonprofit in the nation. In 2019, the students at Kids Helping Kids also became the SVP Fast Pitch Sacramento winners, cementing their spots as the top nonprofit in Sacramento. In year one, $16,000 went to Marla; in year seven, $100,000 went to hundreds of children, including 100 kids fighting against pediatric cancer. But we can't do what we do without help. Each year, students work hard to sell tickets to events, raise money in the community, and find corporate partners willing to support youth development, and involvement in civic service. Unlike many other high school learning opportunities, Kids Helping Kids is not simulated, or hypothetical. It is a real business, run by real students, saving real lives. It not only provides students with the skills to succeed in their future careers, but makes a statement about civic duty and entrepreneurial leadership: you don't need to be an adult to make a difference.
