About Kiku Handmade
Artist Laurie Freivogel of Kiku Handmade has been creating screen printed, fused glass goods out of her tiny Oak Park studio since 2004. Laurie learned screen printing in art school, but is a self-taught glass artist, and through extensive experimentation, has developed her own distinctive style via a technique combining both media. Using glass enamels, Laurie screen prints her designs onto colorful sheet glass, then fuses in a kiln in multiple firings. She makes colorful, contemporary glass coasters, serving pieces, decor and more featuring bold graphics, botanical drawings, pop-culture icons + quintessential city landmarks. Because Laurie creates her artwork, and burns all of her own screens, custom design is very accessible.
