About Kindred Films
Kindred Films is a non-profit organization that strives to unite the global community through film. We create movies and television series that highlight important social issues around the world and use them to entertain and inform our audience, educate in classrooms and online, and support our social cause partners. We collaborate with local artists, filmmakers, and writers to develop stories highlighting systemic issues affecting their lives and provide a mechanism for telling those stories globally. Our focus is narrative storytelling about communities and issues that don't have access to the global stage. We then thread those stories together to create an anthology TV series that entertains audiences while engaging them in dynamic social issues. We match each film with an aligned charity in that community, so they can use it to raise awareness and support for their cause. We work with groups such as Doctors Without Borders and Global Conservation Force. We also partner with educators in those communities to set up classroom screenings along with a curated curriculum and Q&A sessions. Engaging students in social issues through this creative process encourages them to learn how to advocate for causes they care about. Our short film "The Last Ranger" has been shortlisted for a 2025 Oscar nomination in the Live Action Short Film category of the 97th Academy Awards. "The Last Ranger" and Carl and the Janitor" have won awards worldwide, including Best Narrative Film, Audience Choice Awards, Best Short Film, Best Youth Actress, Best Short Script, Best Actress, and Best Actor. The Kindred community started in early 2020 when the world stopped and everything shut down. We came together to create powerful stories about the shared experience of communities worldwide during this unique time in history.
