About Kingston Primary Care Trust
Kingston PCT (KPCT) was formed in April 2001 and is a dedicated service focused on delivering the best health care to the people of the Royal Borough of Kingston. Kingston PCT is responsible for: • providing community based health services to local residents including General Practice (GP), dental, optometry and community pharmacy services, community nursing, specialist children's services, learning disabilities and sexual health services • ensuring that the particular health needs of local residents are reflected in the services provided • purchasing services from the wider health community particularly acute and specialist hospitals and mental health trusts • ensuring that the highest standard and quality of services are provided locally • The PCT works closely with its social care partners, the Royal Borough of Kingston (RBK) and the voluntary sector As of the 1st January 2008, the PCT served 185,717 people registered with GP practices in the area, as well as a significant number of unregistered people; including the homeless, refugees and asylum seekers. Within the PCT there are 122 GPs in 29 practices, 31 community pharmacies, 26 general dental practices, 20 optometric practices and around 600 directly employed staff. IT Services also supports Joint Financial Services Department (Kingston PCT & Richmond PCT), the local practice based commissioning initiative Kingston Co-operative Initiative (KCI) and the South West London collaborative initiative to combat sexual health problems, SWLCSP (SWL Chlamydia Screening Programme). Other key services being provided and supported include the NHS Care Records Service and RiO, the centrally provided Community Health Record System that is supplied by LPfIT (London Program for Information Technology.) It will replace both PAS and TCS clinical systems. RiO will introduce a mobile working solution made up of laptops being used in remote locations (due to go live in Feb).
