About Kipuka o ke Ola

Kīpuka o ke Ola (KOKO) Native Hawaiian Rural Health Clinic, was originally established to address Native Hawaiian health disparities on Northern Hawaiʻi Island. Situated in Waimea, the surrounding community has a population of 14,000 people, an approximated 40% of which are of Hawaiian ancestry. Waimea has the second highest density of Native Hawaiian’s per capita in the state, due to the surrounding Department of Hawaiian Homelands which serve over 500 leasees and families. KOKO’s mission is to provide cultural, spiritual, medical, and psychological services to all residents of North Hawaiʻi, with a special emphasis for the Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians). This mission is our kuleana (responsibility). KOKO provides culturally-informed direct services, actively collaborates with Hawaiian agencies and associations, and is led by the community it serves. At KOKO, we envision a community where Native Hawaiians in North Hawai’i will enjoy the highest quality comprehensive healthcare from prenatal to end of life.
