About KITA The Connector
KITA the Connector is a mentorship platform that seeks to connect youth and Maritime Graduates to potential employers through our monthly “Lunch, Learn and Connect” session. These sessions seek to highlight the diversity of the maritime industry to aspiring maritime professionals with the hope of creating opportunities for participation in the industry. KITA means "North" in Japanese. It's a symbol of how important the north direction is in the maritime industry—especially for sailors navigating or finding their way home. If you're a young professional in the maritime industry, make sure to join our community! We're here to support and connect you as you build your career. KITA the connector exists to empower the next generation of maritime professionals by connecting graduates to industry employers. Our mission is to create a more diverse and inclusive maritime industry through sharing of information, motivation, mentorship, and connection to opportunities. We believe that all people should have equal access to opportunity, and we want to close the gap between graduates and access to industry players with the potential for job opportunities in the maritime industry. We aim to create a community of like-minded individuals who are looking for opportunities to understand and work in the marine industry. We aim to do this by building a community based on networking events and mentorship programs. What problems does KITA the connector seeks to solve? Lack of Diversity Sexual harassment - NO POLICIES Limiting women's development and side-lining them for opportunities Poor Maritime Ecosystem Awareness
