About Kivi Park
In 2016, Fielding family matriarch and philanthropist Lily Fielding celebrated her 100th birthday with a gift to the Sudbury community – 450+ acres of land overlooking Long Lake and Crowley Lake in the city’s South End, to be developed into Kivi Park, a multi-use sports and outdoor park intended to become a premiere destination for sport, nature and adventure for not only Sudbury and Northern Ontario, but for the entire province. Kivi Park is designed as a destination park for residents and visitors alike, with a vision to create a space that encourages healthy active living through organized sport, extensive trails, recreational spaces and lakes. Boasting the best of the Sudbury landscape and filled with all the diversity the Boreal Forest is known for, some of the city’s best waterways and the gorgeous rock of the Cambrian Shield, Kivi park is the perfect destination for year round outdoor activities such as hiking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. Kivi Park was named after Mrs. Fielding’s parents Susanna and John Kivi, Finnish immigrants who settled in the area and helped to shape the city. With this generous gift, passion from the community and countless volunteers, Kivi Park has grown into Sudbury’s largest multi-use recreational outdoor space. With over 25 km of groomed hiking, snowshoeing and cross country ski trails, public access to Crown land leading to Crowley Lake, Linton Lake and Camp Lake, connection to Killarney Provincial Park, outdoor enthusiasts will be able to reach the region’s most picturesque spots through a series of trail systems for cross country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, mountain biking and running. With continuing upgrades to the existing athletic facilities and the creation of additional recreational activities, Kivi Park will work to support active lifestyles, youth and adult sports leagues, up and coming high performance athletes and community wellness throughout the region.
