About KliK Foundation

The Foundation for Climate Protection and Carbon Offset KliK is a private organisation that acts in accordance with the Swiss CO₂ Act and the Swiss CO₂ Ordinance and serves public interest. It was established in 2012 by the Swiss Petroleum Association (now Avenergy Suisse) for the fulfilment of the industry's legal obligation to offset fuel emissions. The Foundation actively contributes to sustainable climate protection by financing mitigation activities that demonstrably reduce emissions. In the current decade, the KliK Foundation expects to achieve emission reductions of 40 million tonnes of CO₂, which corresponds to about 10% of Switzerland’s emissions. At least half of this is in Switzerland. In addition to national activities, the Foundation has also been involved in international greenhouse gas mitigation activities since 2022. These take place in countries that have concluded bilateral climate agreements with Switzerland in accordance with Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement. The financial contributions of the Foundation enable the implementation of activities that not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also take into account additional social, ecological and health benefits in the partner country. The resulting emission reduction certificates through the promotion of climate-friendly technologies and innovations in Switzerland (Swiss attestations, CHA) and abroad (Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes, ITMOs) are acquired by the KliK Foundation and delivered to Switzerland, which uses them for the achievement of its climate targets (Nationally Determined Contribution, NDC). In this way, the Foundation KliK makes a significant contribution to the achievement of Switzerland's climate targets and to the global reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
