About Kolkata Foundation

Kolkata Foundation, a US-registered 501 c(3) nonprofit, works to unify people from all over the world to join the fight against poverty in Kolkata and Bengal. 70 years after independence, Bengal continues to be one of the poorest regions in India, with over a million people living in abject poverty in vast urban slums without access to education, healthcare, basic sanitation and job opportunities. It was founded in 2018 with a couple of simple goals: - To create a global platform for Calcuttans to give back in a systematic, synchronized manner (as opposed to ad-hoc, individual, disorganized efforts), in order to truly make an impact. Our goal is to be the bridge between the rest of the world and philanthropic efforts to reduce social inequality in Kolkata and Bengal. - To maximize the impact of donations by finding great non-profits working in Kolkata, and monitoring / growing their efforts through our network of volunteers. Helping these non-profits scale their impact by improving their operations, providing management guidance, and connecting them with the best non-profits around the world. Our trustees bear all administrative expenses so that 100% of the money raised can be send to help the needy. We are a growing group of volunteers with professional backgrounds that combine fundraising with pro-bono services to the most outstanding non profits in Kolkata in order to help them tend to the neediest in the city. We have no religious affiliation. We believe that by working together as a team we can accomplish much more than we can as individuals in the fight against poverty.
