About Koolmill Systems Limited
Today, rice is a wasteful antiquated global industry that feeds 3.5 billion people. By 2050 this will be 6 billion and rice production will need to increase by 70%. Annually, 750 million tonnes of paddy (raw rice) is harvested. Each year 60 million tonnes, with an input cost of $14 billion, is lost from Field to Fork. 180 million tonnes of what’s left is damaged during processing, reducing its value. Why us? we believe that Koolmill technology will transform the way the world is fed. By minimising food loss and increasing incomes, Koolmill technology will move the rice industry to a sustainable future and lift millions from poverty. What we do? Koolmill has pioneered a disruptive processing technology, primarily for rice. We offer: accessible simpler mills, power savings of 80%, less food loss, a higher value higher quality end-product. Koolmill improves profitability and reduces the environmental impact of rice globally. Current machines do something mechanically to the rice. Koolmill is a next generation technology, we treat rice as a fluid and do something with the rice. Impact: The paddy lost each year wastes 1.7 trillion litres of water and in Asia would feed 300 million people for a year; in Africa, it would be 1.2 billion people for a year. 1.5 million SME mills create much of this loss. Market Research forecasts that 90.5% of the 1.2 million machines supplied 2018-23 will be old-style, destructive machines. An initial investment in 2018 of £500,000 will enable key personnel to be recruited and establish a validated pilot mill in Greece. With validated pilot mills, we will hit a tipping point. We have 70% of global rice protected by patents, the team to oversee, and the production capacity in place to rapidly grow a global business. A follow on £800,000 investment in 2020 will fund the launch of our novel pay-as-you-mill business model. Our ambition is to be recognised as a thought leader and global TOP10 supplier to the rice industry by 2028.
