Design is much more than choosing furnishings and paint colors. Design brings people together and creates experiences, from social gatherings to entire communities. It’s carried out in how you live day to day. Design is everywhere. My name is Danielle Koos. I am an interior designer and the owner of Koos Design, LLC. Headquartered in Arlington, VA, I work locally as well as regionally on small to large scale residential and commercial projects. I've had a vested interest in all things design and sales my entire life. I grew up associating the Eames lounge chair with my grandfather’s study and learning to take my first steps around a Noguchi coffee table, which acted as a balancing piece. I didn’t realize my passion for interior design until one day I caught myself in the middle of an accounting class building homes on a computer game named The SIM’s. That wasn’t my first time, every day after elementary school I would rush home just to get on the computer to play the game. If you aren’t familiar with The SIM’s, you build and manage communities and families. Starting with creating the family, buying the lot, building then furnishing the home, and once completed you manage the people. Except I did not care for managing the people, I would find myself focusing on the lot, counting the squares on the screen which replicated the property and creating floorplans on graph paper. I would then build the home, including all of the homes fixtures, finishes, and furnishings. It wasn’t until many years later in that one accounting class where I realized interior design was my calling, my passion, my obsession.
