Ethical Trading Ethical trading within KQtea and Kipsonoi tea factory cares for the rights of all workers within the production and supply chain. We watch against exploitation of workers and farmers who produce tea for both local consumption and for export. The Ethical trading directorate within the co-operative works with farmers and workers to ensure that basic human and labour rights, the development of safe and decent working conditions and improved general standards of living are met and adhered to. We ensure that: A safe and hygienic working environment is provided. Adequate steps are taken to prevent accidents and injury to health arising out of, associated with, or occurring in the course of work by minimizing the causes of hazards in the working environment. Workers receive regular and recorded health and safety training which is repeated for new or reassigned workers. Access to clean toilet facilities and to drinkable water, sanitary facilities for food storage is provided. Accommodation, is clean, safe and meet the basic needs of the workers. We have an assigned ethics department and senior management that helps the cooperative observe these codes. We ensure that our Members and Producers must: Protect the natural environment Make environmental protection an integral part of farm management Have clear rules that protect farmers and workers We encourage and promote Fairtrade products as they guarantee a better deal for third world producers.
