About L'Arche North Carolina

L'Arche NC is a growing community in the Triangle area of North Carolina, as we seek to establish our first home and center for adults with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our home will be a radically inclusive space where meals are shared, friendships are formed, and everyone's unique gifts are celebrated. Our first home will welcome in 3-4 core members and 2-3 live-in assistants. L'Arche (French for 'The Ark') makes explicit the dignity of every human being by building inclusive communities of faith and friendship where people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) share life together. Community members are transformed through relationships of mutuality, respect, and companionship as they live, work, pray and play together. People with I/DD are at the heart of L'Arche. They are not clients, patients, or recipients of services, but rather they are friends, teachers, and companions. People without intellectual disabilities grow through their encounters in L'Arche. Through daily acts of care, trust, and friendship, they develop into ambassadors of compassion and leaders of social change and the common good. As we journey towards our first home, our community is growing through inclusive programming that we regularly host each month. Folks of all abilities are invited to join us for a variety of events, such as accessible meet-ups, adaptive dance classes, inclusive prayer spaces, bingo, trivia, and crafting.
