The Chamber was formed in 1909 in the small town of Lordsburg when a group of public spirited citizens, most of them business owners, were inspired by merchant James McClellan to organize the Lordsburg-La Verne Board of Trade. This served Lordsburg and an adjacent unincorporated town to the northwest known as La Verne.
