About LAB! Theatre

LAB! Theatre began in 1982 when then chair Dr. Milly Barringer and a few Dramatic Art majors decided that undergraduates needed their own venue to promote and explore their training in acting, directing and design. Today, LAB! is the oldest entirely student-run theatre company at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and exists with the support of the Department of Dramatic Art and Student Congress. LAB! is dedicated to providing admission free theatre whilst empowering artists to create and take risks. We intend to provide the university community with an entirely student-produced theatre organization that contributes professional quality, stimulating and relevant theatrical productions to the student body free of charge. In our productions, we seek to provide students with the opportunity to gain experience in a complete theatrical production of which parts includes: acting, directing, lighting design and operation, sound design and operation, set design and construction, costume design and management, technical direction, public relations, house management, stage management and theatre administration.
