In an era where cultural understanding and diversity are more crucial than ever, the idea of creating an Arab film festival in the heart of Lisbon stems from a strong desire to foster deeper connections between the Arab world and Portugal. The historical ties between both cultures are well-known and clearly visible in the Portuguese language, architecture, music and values. Yet these influences are too often forgotten, or not enough recognised. The Lisbon Arab Film Festival (LAFF) is committed to bridging this gap, introducing our audiences to the captivating world of Arab cinema while highlighting the region’s unique heritage, values and artistic expressions. By showcasing the lasted and most compelling films from the Arab world, in close collaboration with our partners from Portugal and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, our aim is to foster cross-cultural dialogue on important questions such as human rights, social justice, emancipation, faith and freedom. The festival intends to develop into an annual international platform bringing a selection of the most recent and acclaimed works to a diverse and cosmopolitan audience of cinema enthusiasts. Most films selected will be screened for the first time in Portugal. We are thrilled to invite you to join us in this journey.
