About Las Taifas
A historical medieval game of Iberian trade, strategy & conquest. The game is set on the Iberian Peninsula, where present-day Spain and Portugal are located. The southern part of the Peninsula was occupied by the Islamic Caliphate of Córdoba during the early Middle Ages. The northern part was occupied by Christian kingdoms and counties. The Caliphate fell in 1031 because of the succession war for the throne and consequently the territory fragmented into many taifas. Taifa is Arabic for faction or principality. You would think that the Christians took advantage of this event to overrun the Caliphate. But that did not happen. The Christians were too weak and too divided. They also appreciated the luxurious new products offered to their markets through the global trade network of the taifas.
