Jim Mahoney has maintained a solo entertainment law practice for over 35 years, representing numerous actors, hosts, directors, writers, and producers. Jim has extensive transactional experience, both as a lawyer and business/legal affairs executive as well as a creative executive and producer in the motion picture and television businesses. Jim began his legal career as the law clerk for Henry Bushkin , who’s client Johnny Carson commonly referred to as “Bombastic Bushkin.” Upon passing the California bar, Jim decided to take a crack at litigation by going to work for renowned San Francisco attorney Melvin Belli in his Beverly Hills office. Later he was offered and accepted a position as an agent in the television and packaging departments of ICM. It was at ICM that Jim developed and honed his negotiating skills in the fields of talent management, rights acquisition and television production, representing some of the most successful talent and companies in the entertainment business. Four years later he transitioned to production executive as VP Development for an independent production company, negotiating rights acquisition deals, talent deals, and everything in between. Throughout his career, Jim has enjoyed the challenges and flexibility of traversing between corporate executive positions and independent legal representation. Jim has enjoyed long lasting relationships with many clients and often provides significant business and strategic advice, in addition to legal advice. Recently, Jim has expanded his law practice to include the areas of Blockchain, Cryptocurrency and NFTs by becoming legal counsel for MINTNFT, one of the preeminent NFT marketplaces for licensed content, brands, and creators, as well as legal adviser to an NFT partnership with Homeboy Art Academy, a subsidiary of Fr. Greg Boyle’s Homeboy Industries and a leader in the LA inner city Latino art movement.
