About Law Reform Commission of Ireland
Our mission is to keep the law under independent, objective and expert review, to make recommendations for law reform and to make current law accessible for all. We work to improve and simplify the law through both our law reform and access to legislation activities. Our law reform proposals are first developed in Consultation Papers. These examine the law and set out questions on possible changes to the law. We then invite submissions on possible changes to the law, consulting widely. Submissions received help to inform our final analysis and recommendations that are published in our Reports. Many of our proposals have led to changes in Irish law. We also make existing legislation more accessible through three resources: 1. The Legislation Directory, which tracks all amendments made to legislation. 2. Revised Acts, which are administrative consolidations of all post-2004 Acts (excluding the Finance Acts and the Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005) and approximately 170 pre-2005 Acts. 3. The Classified List, which categorises and presents legislation by subject matter, to make it easier for users to find the law in a particular area.
