About LBFE Boston | Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly
Since 1979, LBFE Boston (Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly) has worked to alleviate loneliness and isolation among Boston’s low-income older adults. Today, as rates of social isolation rise, our mission is more urgent than ever. There is far less funding available for social engagement, technology training, and creative opportunities—the very resources that help older adults stay connected, continue learning, and live with dignity. Without these supports, many older adults are left isolated, undermining both physical and mental health. Our four core initiatives mirror some of the opportunities available in market-rate retirement communities, ensuring that older adults with limited income gain access to the same kinds of enrichment, social connection, and engagement without cost barriers: CitySites – Weekly intergenerational social and educational gatherings in public and affordable senior housing and senior centers. Digital Dividends – Technology access and training and one-on-one support to bridge the digital divide. Creative Connections – Local instructor-led arts programs that foster creativity, self-expression, and joy. Gen2GenQ – A pioneering intergenerational network that connects college students with older LGBTQIA+ adults for conversation, support, and activism.
