About Leaf Architecture

Leaf Architecture is a boutique architecture practice with a love of design, people, community and the learning environment. Based in the Inner West, we have immersed ourselves in one of Sydney’s creative precincts with a view to establishing ourselves as a design firm with a functional edge. Although the breadth of our work is broad, our specialisation is the learning environment, comprising schools, early learning centres and tertiary facilities. We maintain this specialisation by our continual research into the current and future trends of learning delivery models. This research, coupled with our experience offers unique benefits, such as our understanding of capital works funding, working with operational environments and most importantly, practical applications of pedagogies. We strongly value research into Teaching and Learning as it is one of our cornerstone approaches to our practice. At Leaf Architecture, we believe that all decisions should be based on research and should have a learning strategy embedded at its core, to enable the continual improvement of learning outcomes for the students. Through this strategy, we can then work with you to design the “third teacher” - namely the learning environment. The experience of our director, Daniel Smith, combined with our passion advancing the learning environment provides schools with an interesting design framework, comprising of Process, Challenge and Outcomes. Our design process has been refined over the past fifteen years to maximise engagement and understanding with the goal of lifting learning outcomes. Designing the learning environment is our passion, working with educators to design a space that reflects their pedagogy is our purpose.
